We still have a few days left before classes start up again on October 9th, so those of us who are back on campus thought we would go on some Shenzhen excursions and better get to know our new home. We chose to check out a popular tourist attraction called Splendid China (see below for description that I took off the web).
In a nutshell, Splendid China is a theme park full of replicas. Here you can find mini replicas of all the major landmarks in China (including The Great Wall, The Forbidden City, Huangshan Mountains, Li River, etc. Everything was perfectly replicated - every detail matching the real deal. China may not be known for its creativity, but WOW is it good at making copies.
The theme park is HUGE. We spent about 3.5 hours visiting different famous landmarks. We even got to walk the "Great Wall" - it was much less tiring walking the replica! While Splendid China was somewhat tacky, I still really enjoyed the experience. It is a great way to learn about each of the different landmarks (there are guided tours and brochures to teach you about each place). It also sparked some future travel ideas.
After our excursion to Splendid China, we took a bus to a nearby district for some Korean food :)
