Ni hao! Today was my second day of my October break :) Jojo and I decided we want to do some touristy things this week and really get to know our new city. We took the subway to Pudong (the other side of the Huangpu River). I live on the "Puxi side" - Xi means west and Dong means east, so the east side of the Huangpu River is referred to as "Pudong" and the west side of the river is referred to as "Puxi". The Pudong side is extremely modern. Here you will find all the new skyscrapers and modern architecture. Pudong is home to the famous Oriental Pearl Tower (a popular landmark in Shanghai), the "bottle opener building" and the Jinmao tower (which is home to the tallest hotel in the world). Today, Jojo and I adventured over to the Jinmao Tower and took an elevator ride to the 88th floor observation deck to get a top notch view of the Shanghai skyline, as you can see below. We also got to check out the Grand Hyatt inside of the Jinmao Tower. The birds-eye view picture you see of all the winding stairs is a view looking down from the 85th floor of the Grand Hyatt.. Mom and dad, when you come to Shanghai, I will treat you to a one night stay in the Grand Hyatt :) It was pretty incredible to see how modern and developed Pudong is compared Bai Se Road (the street my school is on). Teva, I hope you enjoy all the pictures of the modern architecture.
Enjoy! Off to a water town to check out some real Asian landscapes on Friday, so look for a new blog post Friday night (Friday morning your time).
Sweet dreams! XO
