A few weeks ago, we took my kiddos on the most amazing field trip. We went to this job village for children, which let students try out a huge range of careers – acting, archeology, construction, security, baking, cooking, healthcare, banking, babysitting, dentistry, television production…you name it! The village was set up like a mini town with different rooms. Each room looked like the real thing – the room where you could try being a sushi chef actually looked like a real Japanese restaurant! AND the students even made real sushi. The room where you could try being an archeologist was actually setup like an outdoor digging site where the students dug for fossils and bones. The room where you could try banking actually looked like a bank and had fake money. You get the point. Additionally, there were experts in each room who answered students’ questions and informed them about the job they were visiting. There’s nothing cuter than seeing an entire 1st grade dressed as mini doctors, dim sum chefs, beauticians, firefighters, news anchors, etc. Students had the time of their lives and gained a lot of valuable hands-on “real life” experience. Talk about exposure at a young age!
