This week is "Chinese Culture Week" in the primary school. What better way to celebrate Chinese culture than learning how to make dumplings?! During Chinese class today, all of the students in the primary school walked over to the cafeteria where parent volunteers (mostly mothers) taught our students how to properly make dumplings (bao jiaozi). The mothers showed the kiddos how to roll out all of the flour, stuff the dough with meat and properly pinch the edges to make the traditional dumpling shape. Our students were very proud of their dumplings! Once the students had finished stuffing and molding their "jiaozi", the cafeteria staff collected the dumplings and boiled them in large pots so they were ready to eat. Students then got to eat their homemade and delicious dumplings!
It was so nice to have parents involved with our school activities. I think the mothers really had a great time. It reminds me of the good old days when my parents volunteered at The Foote School. My mom used to help with art activities at Native American Day and my dad came in to talk about bladders using water balloons. I wish they were close enough to come be guest speakers at SHSID!
