It just occurred to me that I have never actually taken you all for a walk on MY STREET. I have taken you on nearby streets, but you have yet to go for a leisurely stroll with me on Baise Road. Here you are! This is where I live! MY HOME. My block has pretty much everything you might need: a store full of $1.00 pirated DVDs (Dad, this is where I bought you the first 5 seasons of Breaking Bad for 7 bucks), $3.00 pants and shoes, tailors, snack shops (no, I do not eat that packaged squid or charcoal peanuts), electronic shops, bubble tea stands, Shanghai soup dumplings, China Post, pharmacies (both modern medicine and traditional medicine)…what else could you possible ask for in a neighborhood. It really feels like home here, and I am getting sad to leave Baise. I know exactly where to go for my dried mango, where to find the shoe repair-man across from the post office and where to find my “Snuggles” Western-style toilet paper. I am sure my neighborhood in Shenzhen will also be able to meet all of my needs.
